Monospace AI Gets a Major Upgrade: NVIDIA Nemotron
We've switched the AI engine behind Monospace's built-in assistant to NVIDIA Nemotron — a powerful 120B-parameter model that's completely free and supports full tool calling.
Why We Switched
Our previous AI models were deprecated by their provider, which caused errors for users trying to use the assistant. Rather than just swapping to another paid model, we took the opportunity to upgrade to something better.
NVIDIA's Nemotron model is part of their open-weight initiative and is available through OpenRouter at no cost. Despite being free, it's remarkably capable — especially when it comes to structured tool use.
What This Means for You
The Monospace AI assistant can do everything it could before, but more reliably:
- Create cards on your boards with titles, descriptions, and column placement
- Add tasks to any task list in your project
- Create notes with full content
- Save links to your link library
- Move cards between columns
- Search your project — find cards, tasks, notes, and tickets by keyword
- Analyse images — upload screenshots and get descriptions and action suggestions
All of this works through natural language. Just tell the AI what you want and it figures out which tools to use.
Available Everywhere
The AI assistant works in:
- The web app — click the floating AI button on any project
- Discord — mention @Monospace or use the
/aicommand - Ticket replies — AI can draft replies to customer tickets
No Plan Restrictions
Since Nemotron is a free model, we've removed the plan-based restriction for the AI assistant. All users with AI enabled can use it — just toggle it on in your account settings.
If you have your own Anthropic API key, you can still use Claude directly by adding it in Settings. The system will prefer your own key when available.
Try It Now
Open any project, click the AI button, and ask it something. Try "Create a card called Bug Fix on my first board" or "What tasks do I have this week?" — it'll handle the rest.
